Torchwood exceeded (my) expectations!

I was pleasantly surprised when I watched Torchwood's first episode for the first time ever on BBC America. While the storyline was a bit predictable (it screamed that the police offer would become the next member of the Torchwood team), it also served as a good way to give us a grand tour of the Torchwood facility.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised and I'm looking forward to the next episode!

Firefly fans this is for you: Complete Season 1 DVD set for $20 @ Amazon

This offer is only good today, Friday September 7 as it is their deal of the day. You can get free shipping if your total order is $25 or more. The dvd set consists of 4 dvds with a total run time of just over 11 hours. Check the many user reviews at Amazon if you are not familiar with the show or want 2nd opinions (this obviously not for the fans of the show, but those who might be on the fence or just now starting to get to know the Whedon universe.

Prophetic post from 2006? (rebooting Star Trek)

In 2006 I wrote the first post in this blog discussing how to cleanly reboot Star Trek. Well guess what, if you have read some of the JJ Abrams Star Trek spoilers (regarding Spock), it looks like I got it right! Check my December 2006 post on how to reboot Trek.

JJ, I expect my check in the mail, and please keep the royalty checks coming in 2009 and beyond :)

Doctor Who takes a mini-break between seasons

According to Syfyportal.com, Doctor Who will take the 2009 season off, sort of. They will still produce a Xmas special and 2-3 other specials throughout the year. But not a complete season. But fear not, they will return in 2010 with Season 5. Season 4 will begin airing on BBC UK in early 2008, while SciFi is showing Season 3 in the USA. BBC America will air Season 2 in parallel with the USA debut of the more adult Torchwood. And some PBS stations are showing Season 1 or episodes from the previous Doctor Who series. Interesting developments given the rumors that Tennant and Russell T. Davis were either burnt out or wanted to move on.
