Crusade series on DVD for just $13 at Amazon (Babylon 5 fans wake up!)

Wake up Babylon 5 fans! The Crusade DVD set at Amazon is now on sale for $13. Yes, the whole Crusade - the one that was filmed and aired, can be yours for a mere $13. The regular price is usually over $40. Shipping on this is $3, but if your total order is $25 or more, then it is free super-save shipping. The price is such, that if you buy two, eg one as a gift for someone else, or perhaps as a personal backup or collector's backup, then you get free shipping also!

If only TNT hadn't screwed up, we would have had a full five-season DVD set of Crusade :-( Instead we have just 2/3rds of a full season.

Hot SciFi DVD sale at Amazon's Cosmotopia

Scifi geeks unite and grab your wallets! Amazon's Cosmotopedia, the scifi genre segment of their website is having a big SciFi DVD sale! Yeehaa! :)

There are some different ways to look at the cameras with the great specials starting with the top selling scifi DVDs.

You can also check the top sellers by price range, starting with the ones under $6, and also the ones under $8 and under $10.

Some of the great deals include Stargate:Ark of Truth for $11, SciFi's Dune mini-series for $6 (two disc set), the "V" TV series and "V the final battle" at under $25 together, and lots more.

"V" of course is following the path of Battlestar Galactica, with both the original people and new people working on a new version and a re-imagination. It will be interesting to see if "V" rematerializes. And it will be interesting to see how it is re-done. We've already seen a couple of "similar" shows fail during the same season, ABC's "Invasion" and CBS's "Threshold".

Pre-order the Battlestar Galactica Season 4.0 right now!

Amazon has just listed season 4.0 of Battlestar Galactica on their website for pre-orders, for the price of $32 with free shipping.

Even better, Amazon has a pre-order price-guarantee so if the price drops before the DVD set ships, then you will get the lower price of the two.

This is a set of four DVDs, with a total run time of 755 minutes. But you have to be patient, they will be released on January 6, 2009.

This is the first half of season four, featuring the first ten episodes that have already aired.

The second half of Season 4, and the end of the Battlestar Galactica story will begin airing on the SciFi Channel in mid-January 2009!

Torchwood exceeded (my) expectations!

I was pleasantly surprised when I watched Torchwood's first episode for the first time ever on BBC America. While the storyline was a bit predictable (it screamed that the police offer would become the next member of the Torchwood team), it also served as a good way to give us a grand tour of the Torchwood facility.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised and I'm looking forward to the next episode!

Prophetic post from 2006? (rebooting Star Trek)

In 2006 I wrote the first post in this blog discussing how to cleanly reboot Star Trek. Well guess what, if you have read some of the JJ Abrams Star Trek spoilers (regarding Spock), it looks like I got it right! Check my December 2006 post on how to reboot Trek.

JJ, I expect my check in the mail, and please keep the royalty checks coming in 2009 and beyond :)

Doctor Who takes a mini-break between seasons

According to, Doctor Who will take the 2009 season off, sort of. They will still produce a Xmas special and 2-3 other specials throughout the year. But not a complete season. But fear not, they will return in 2010 with Season 5. Season 4 will begin airing on BBC UK in early 2008, while SciFi is showing Season 3 in the USA. BBC America will air Season 2 in parallel with the USA debut of the more adult Torchwood. And some PBS stations are showing Season 1 or episodes from the previous Doctor Who series. Interesting developments given the rumors that Tennant and Russell T. Davis were either burnt out or wanted to move on.

String theory, multiple dimensions, the Elegant Universe!

More science than fiction, although some would argue the opposite, this 464 page book deals with the universe, string theory, multiple dimensions, general relativity vs quantum mechanics, and a lot more. Written by Brian Greene whom you may be familiar from the accompanying documentary that aired on PBS TV stations around the country. The documentary is available in DVD format as well. If you want more scientific bang for your buck (no pun intended), you can the repackaged edition that contains "Einstein's Big Idea" and "Einstein Revealed" in addition to "The Elegant Universe" for around $25 on Amazon.
